About the Project

Welcome to the “Philosophy of Trust”
Annotated Bibliography Project

The Philosophy of Trust Annotated Bibliography Project provides a curated collection of resources on the topic of trust. It is designed for scholars, teachers, students, and anyone interested in the philosophical exploration of trust, providing insights into its complexities, challenges, and relevance for our personal, political, and digital lives.

Work for this ongoing project is carried out by a team of graduate students at the University of Lethbridge, working under the guidance of Associate Professor of Philosophy and Jarislowsky Chair in Trust & Political Leadership, Dr. Susan Dieleman. It is one small part of a visionary national initiative supported by Scotiabank and the Jarislowsky Foundation: the Network of Jarislowsky Chairs in Trust & Political Leadership. The deep-seated commitment of Mr. Stephen A. Jarislowsky, President of the Jarislowsky Foundation, to educational, cultural, and democratic endeavors, makes this work possible.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make accessible, but also to illuminate the complexities of, scholarship on trust, with a particular focus on its significance for understanding and improving democratic societies. Echoing Mr. Jarislowsky’s concern for the challenges facing democratic societies today, our project invites reflection on the nature of trust and trustworthiness, the challenges posed by distrust, and the importance of trust for ethical and responsible public leadership.
